Welcome to the official web page for the Citrus League!
The Citrus League is the premier Inter-Regional Pokemon league, currently operating in eight different cities across five regions. Currently in our sixth season, the Citrus League plays an irregular self-scheduled league phase (awarding the Lemon-Lime Trophy to the first place finisher), followed by an end of season tournament where teams compete for the Orange Bowl Trophy. The league also operates a preseason knockout competition called the Yuzu Cup. Meet the teams of the Citrus League below!
The Skycats had a lengthy history in various Hoenn based competitions and were the club that pushed the hardest for the formation of an Inter-Regional league. This helped birth the Citrus League, and the Cats also won the first ever trophy in league history, taking home the Lemon-Lime Trophy in Season 1. The Skycats have a relatively small but passionate fanbase and embrace a musical atmosphere at home games; the Pride of Sootopolis is the league's largest marching band. The Cats finally broke through and won Orange Bowl V last year.
Owned and operated by a famous steakhouse tycoon, the Sizzle Kicks are a younger franchise formed specifically for the Citrus League. Though the management was initially lacking in matchday experience, the Kicks adjusted quickly and have put out solid, competitive teams. The best gameday food on the circuit is a given, and the Kicks are emblematic of the "fans first" approach to running a team, leading the way in promotions and theme nights. The Kicks won the 4th running of the Yuzu Cup, sending the city of Circhester into long awaited euphoria.
The Steely Hooligans began their life in Hammerlocke as the Raging Perrserkers, but found a new home down the road in Spikemuth after Season 1. The move allowed the club a lot more breathing room, and their new home city embraced the rockstar personas of players and staff. The Hooligans made it to the semifinals in their first year in Spikemuth, proving that there is substance behind the style. Their rivalry with Hammerlocke, owing to its old intracity roots, is perhaps the fiercest in the league.
The Laverre Lovelies are the newest Citrus League club on the scene. Taking the place of the Distortion, the Lovelies have an interesting backstory. The club existed for decades prior to their competitive debut, serving as a refuge for the small but growing Fairy Type movement. With the scientific consensus now acknowledging the existence of fairy types, the Laverre side have garnered support from all corners of the globe for their pioneering and unwavering spirit. Furthermore, Lovelies merch has quickly grown to be the most popular in the league, and both players and staff acknowledge that dressing with style is part of the show.
The Walkers franchise joined at the start of Season 2, and quickly became known for their unconventional style of play. From the team construction to the tactics to the blissful vibes inside the stadium, there is certainly no team quite like the Walkers. They are generally recognized as leaders on fan engagement, with players typically required to give extensive interviews and encouraged to be as personable as possible with the fans.
The Hammerlocke Bronze Wyrms were the first franchise contacted by the Skycats during the formation of the Citrus League, and have emerged as the league's dominant force. The Wyrms won the first four Orange Bowls, and also collected two Lemon-Lime Trophies during that time. The "Wyrm Roar" that echoes throughout Hammerlocke Stadium after a victory has become the stuff of nightmares for visiting teams.
The Rydel Acro-bats are back, and return to the league as serious contenders. Across their previous incarnations the club won a triad of Yuzu Cups, and reached two Orange Bowls in the past three seasons. Always among the betting favorites for any trophy, the Acro-bats are also incredibly revered for their tailgating scene. Away fans across the map were excited to have a trip to Rydel's Grove back on the calendar for the best pregame party around.
The Oreburgh Drill Bits will be making their full debut this season, having previously been an affiliate of the Canalave Dreams before taking over that club's big league license. The Drill Bits are still owned by the Iron Island Mining Company, and have inherited the history of the old Canalave team in the record books. The local miners make up the most boisterous and vocal supporters section, and the club leans heavily into miner iconography. Most famously, the food of choice on gameday in Oreburgh is warm stew, just like the miners (past and present) traditionally eat during meal breaks. The Drill Bits (then called the Dreams) had their greatest success so far in Season 2, finishing second in the table and ultimately losing in the Orange Bowl.
